Just Do It Scared

Hey Weekly Growth Fam!

I know it's been a while and I have some explaining to do šŸ˜…. Life tossed me into the deep end with the start of my Spine rotation, my first orthopedic roation as an intern. I've been working more than I thought was possible, often times in the hospital far before the sun is up, and back home long after it has gone down.

With the start of this rotation, I was handed the keys to run a service solo! Listing cases, managing patients, taking calls, presenting at weekly conferences, etc. Every day I walked into the hospital anxious for what was ahead as I faced tasks that were as new to me as a cat in water. But I recently came across a gem from Glennon Doyle: "If you can't beat the fear, just do it scared." Suddenly, I stopped interpreting fear as something that could limit me, and instead as something that was daring me to step up my game. It is just a sign that I am stretching beyond my comfort zone which is essential for growth.

Weekly Challenge

So, here's my challenge to you: embrace this quote in your life. Whether you're starting a new hobby, diving into a new job, or just trying that intimidating recipe (we've all been there), let fear tag along. Think of it as your slightly annoying yet motivational sidekick.

The Screen Isn’t the Problem—The Plan Is
Hey Fam! A few weeks ago, I caught myself doing what I always tell myself not to do: scrolling mindlessly. Not out of boredom, not even out of curiosity—just habit. Can anyone relate? āœ‹šŸ½ I would set my phone down and pick it back up a few minutes later. I knew something had to change, but instead of going on a full-on digital detox (which, let’s be honest, isn’t feasible and wouldn’t last), I a...
When Intention Quietly Changes Everything
Hey Fam, A few days ago, I stood behind a podium at a national orthopedic surgery conference, palms sweating, heart racing. I was presenting a research project—something I had poured weeks of preparation into—but all I could think about was how I might be perceived. What if I fumbled my words? What if someone asked a question I couldn’t answer? What if I looked unprepared? Thankfully, everythin...
Benjamin Franklin's Secret To Productivity
Hey Fam! Big update from my world:Ā my son, Titus Allen Smith, was born on March 26, 2025! We’re officially a family of four now, and I couldn’t be more grateful. But I also couldn’t be more aware of how limited time really is. Between residency responsibilities, a toddler and newborn at home, building a business, and trying to create as much valuable content as possible, I’ve been thinking mor...
